Prep FB tops Fluvanna 41-21 in Foundation Game
Though billed as a scrimmage, the annual Foundation Game played between Fluvanna County High School and Fork Union has all the trappings of a major high school event. Crowds of people, bands, cheerleaders, and outstanding action on the field.
This past Friday night was no exception as FUMA continued its dominance over county rival Fluvanna, posting a 41-21 victory.
FUMA's team showed some great speed among its skill positions with quarterback Patrick Myrick, back Marcus Dowtin, receiver Chris Pride, and back Curtis Shannon all producing great results on the ground.
The line on both sides of the ball looked solid. Sophomore Mark Shuman made some impressive stops at defensive end, towering at 6'6" over all on the field.
Perhaps the most remarkable performance of the night came late in the game when Andy Tembon was put in the lineup at running back and kick returner. He had also been carrying the duty of kicker and place kicker throughout the night. Late in the game, Andy Tembon had the distinction of running the ball off right tackle into the end zone for a touchdown, remaining on the field to successfully kick the point after, and then being told to hustle back out on the field because he had to kick off. On the ensuing kick, the returner very nearly broke through the last tackler and it appeared that Tembon was going to have to make the tackle on the kick return as well, but finally he was able to take a well-deserved break to catch his breath.
