Chapel Renovation Has Begun
The Wicker Chapel has been the spiritual center of the FUMA campus for more than 70 years, and continues today to be the site of thrice weekly chapel services and special events, such as Middle School Graduation. The renovation of the building is part of the Academy's most recent Long Range Plan, and work began more than a year ago with the installation of a new roof on the Titmus Tower, and a thorough exterior cleaning of the entire building. We're pleased to announce that the time has come for the interior renovation to begin. The first phase will be the restoration of one wing to serve as a "sample area". The plan calls for removal of paneling and old paint, cleaning and refurbishing of the interior brick face, restoration of the original chairs and ceiling, installation of a new floor, remodeling of the stage area to include a baptistery and newly designed steps, and modernizations such as the installation of an audio-visual system. We're hoping to have the job done completely by the time the Corps of Cadets reports for the 2007-2008 Academic Session. To view photos go to FUMA Photos.
