Swimming & Diving Finishes Season with Outstanding Performance

The FUMA Blue Devil Swimming and Diving Finishes Season With Outstanding Performance at High School State Championship and USA-Swimming Regional Championship. Fork Union Military Academy finished 12th out of 41 teams at the High School State Championship on February 16th and 17th. Despite losing Will Trainor (currently attending UVA), the top scoring Senior and swimmer of the meet from last year, FUMA managed to register impressive swims from underclassmen and unheralded swimmers, catapulting them again to one of the top teams in the state.

Along the way the men smashed the current 4 X 100 freestyle relay team record by 13 seconds (Abel, Calhoun, McAfee and Hedges), placed in the finals in all three relays, had two divers score in the top 12, and had individual swimmers qualify for 9 individual events.

A week after the State Championship, 14 cadets traveled to the USA-Swimming Region Championship in Lynchburg as part of the FUMA USA-Swimming club team, Fork Union Aquatic Club. Eleven of the 14 cadets made finals in the grueling three day meet. In total, FUAC brought 25 swimmers to the meet, and managed to bring in more then 50 top eight finishes in individual events.
