19 in a Row! FUMA Wins State Track Championship
For the 19th year in a row, the FUMA Track & Field Team dominated the competition at the State Championship Meet held Saturday, May 20, 2006. Led by Brandon Caleb and Axel Mostrag, the team posted an astounding score of 166.50 points, with Woodberry Forest picking up second place with 78 points, and St. Christopher's grabbing third place with 76 points.
Brandon Caleb won both the 110-meter and 300-meter hurdle events, as well as the long jump and triple jump. As if that were not enough for one competition, Caleb also ran in the 4x100 relay, helping the team pick up third place in that event.
The Blue Devil distance runners posted an impressive 1-2-3 victory, with Axel Mostrag, Jamie Reichlen, and Szymon Rola picking up 24 points for their first, second, and third place finishes, respectively, in the 800-meter run. Mostrag and Rola also finished first and second in the 1600-meter race. Jonathan Buckland and David Johnson both scored in the 3200-meter race with a second and sixth place finish. FUMA also picked up a win in the 4x400 relay run by Mostrag, Reichland, Rola, and Sylvester Bryce. Jamie Reichlen brought home third place in the 400-meters.
Dylan Greer and Mike Tumbarello both scored points in the pole vault with third and fifth place finishes. Jonathan Foote and Travis Myers placed second and eighth in the high jump. Jobari Abramson took third place in the triple jump. Tienne Jefferson placed fourth in the discus, and Carl Daniel finished just out of the points in the shot put with a ninth place finish. Steven Palmer placed fourth in the 100-meter dash and ran the anchor leg in the 4x100 relay with teammates Tyrone Gardner, Neal Dodson, and Brandon Caleb to win third place, just a quarter second behind the first place team and 1/100th of a second behind the second place finisher. Neal Dodson and Tyrone Gardner finished third and eighth in the 200-meter dash.
