Prep Basketball Eliminated from Finals in Closing Seconds
Tuesday - Prep Basketball defeated Collegiate School in a close quarterfinal game of the Prep League Tournament here at Fork Union with a final score of 46-45. After Pickett of Collegiate hit a three-pointer to take a one-point lead with 13 seconds left, Junior Tienne Jefferson banked a jumper at the final buzzer to take the victory. The Blue Devils were led by All-Prep center Lemond Lee with 17 points. Jefferson had 16 points and 10 rebounds. Fork Union advanced to the semis to meet #1 seeded Christchurch on Friday night.
Friday - Fork Union (#4) lost a heartbreaker to #1 seeded Christchurch School 73-71 at Trinity Episcopal School on Friday night. The Blue Devils played hard and never gave up, even when down by 7 points with 90 seconds left and with 3 starters fouled out.
With 8 seconds left in regulation, Junior forward, Zack Bandak knocked down a three-point basket to tie the game at 71. Fork Union committed a foul, and Christchurch made both free throws to seal the victory with 4 seconds remaining. Junior Tienne Jefferson led the Blue Devils in scoring with 21 points and was also selected to the Prep League All-Tournament Team. All-Prep Center Lemond Lee added 14 points before fouling out with 4 minutes remaining. Zack Bandak had 11 points.
