FUMA Rolls at Southeastern Challenge
Fork Union Track kicked off the year in fine fashion with a convincing win in the Southeastern Challenge at the Estes Athletic Center. The challenge is offered to schools primarily from the southeastern part of the state. Fork Union led all scorers with 131 points, 49 better than runner-up Hickory. Leading the way for the Blue Devils was Brandon Caleb. Caleb picked up wins in the high hurdles, long jump, and ran a leg on the victorious 4x400 relay. Axel Mostrag ran a national-best time of 2:33.2 in the 1,000 meter run. Also excelling for FUMA was junior Jamie Reichlen and Carl Daniel, who picked up wins in the 500 and shot put respectively. Outstanding runners-up included Szymon Rola in the 1000, Jonathan Foote in the high jump, Stephen Palmer in the 55, Frank Walker in the shot put, and Marc Anderson in the 300.
Up next for the track team is the Fork Union Invitational at the Estes Center this Saturday. Fork Union has its best chance in years to win the title.
