Now that Eddie George has been signed to the Dallas Cowboys along with veteran quarterback Vinny Testaverde, it raises an interesting coincidence. What do new teammates Eddie George and Vinny Testaverde have in common in their football careers? Yes, both men won college football's coveted Heisman trophy and went on to be franchise players in the National Football League, but that's not the only thing their careers have in common. In fact, Eddie George, Vinny Testaverde and the Cowboys' outstanding linebacker Dexter Coakley all three have this very same thing in common.
The Blue Devils traveled to Christchurch for a battle by the waters of the Rappahannock. In a score more reminiscent of a football game, FUMA was outscored 12 to 6 in a shot-fest. 4 different Blue Devils found the back of the net. Seong Jang, Sean Smith and Brent Oberholzer each made one goal. Walker Owen's hat trick filled completed the effort. Although the team did not come out on top, the effort and drive was obvious. FUMA's next game is at Norfolk Academy on Friday with a 4:30 kick-off.
FUMA's prep soccer team had its first outing of the season Tuesday, September 7th, facing Woodberry Forest School. The team is developing well and had a good showing in the game. The starting squads of both teams were essentially evenly matched, remaining scoreless throughout most of the first half. WFS scored 3 goals total in the effort, while FUMA was held scoreless, although they had ample shots in goal. The season opener against Christ Church on September 14th will mark the official start of the season.
On Thursday, 16 September 2004, FUMA cadets will participate in a campus-wide civics event to promote political awareness and civic responsibility, to stimulate interest, and to educate students on the voting process. The events are voluntary and will involve forums, discussions, the registration of eligible voters, a mock election, and a special speaker during chapel. Representatives from both political parties will be located at tables in the dining facility. Cadets are encouraged to visit each table to learn about each candidate during the cadets' planning period.
