FUMA PG Basketball Starting Strong
On December 1, Bridgewater College's Junior Varsity visited Thomas Gym. Since Fork Union had already done well in a scrimmage against the Bridgewater varsity, the FUMA boys were not expecting much of a contest. However the Bridgewater JV's had other ideas, and the score at halftime was 35-31 in favor of FUMA. The PG's regrouped in the second half to win 86-65.
On December 2 and 3 the team traveled north to Eastern Pennsylvania. to play two games with Lafayette College. The Lafayette team played a strong first half as FUMA was up by only 41 to 35. Playing as a team, the Blue Devils won 87 to 75. The second game, played at 8:00 AM Saturday, was a little easier as the college boys were not used to getting up at 6:30 in the morning to play basketball. FUMA won111-96.
FUMA Postgraduate Basketball next takes the court Friday night at 8:30 PM in the second game of the FUMA Invitational Basketball Tournament, an annual affair that traditionally pits four of the top prep programs in the nation in a two-day showdown. Fork Union will play the New Hampton School (New Hampton, NH). The opener (6:30 PM) will feature Hargrave Military Academy (Chatham, VA) vs. Bridgton Academy (North Bridgton, ME)
The Friday winners will meet in the championship game Saturday at 8:30 PM. The consolation game will be played at 6:30.
FUMA's current record is 6-3.
