Successful Alumni Weekend 2005
On April 30-May 1, close to 250 alumni and friends returned to the Fork Union campus to renew old friendships and capture past memories of their time at the Academy. Representatives from classes as far back as the 1940s were here to participate in many of the activities on campus.
The Class of 1955 celebrated their 50th reunion with a gathering at the Omni Hotel in Charlottesville, VA on Friday evening. Other class socials included the classes of 1965, 1975 and 1980. On Saturday morning the Alumni Golf Tournamnent was held at Laurel Ridge Golf Club in Palmyra, VA with 80 players. Congratulations goes to Kent Carter, Class of 1966, for winning the tournament. The money raised from the tournament will benefit the Charles Rogers Scholarship Fund. In addition, over $27,000 was raised from the Silent Auction to benefit the Lin Bates Scholarship Fund. On Saturday evening at the Alumni Association Dinner, Robert G. Perry, Class of 1959, was recognized as the 2005 Distinguished Alumnus. Mike Whitmore, Class of 1983, became the new Alumni Association President.
