Cadets Courtney and Arvelo Attend Nationals

Last Friday Rob Courtney and David Arvelo travelled to Milwaukee, Wisconsin to compete in the 2005 Grand National Tournament of the National Catholic Forensic League. At 8:00 on Saturday morning 214 high school students from across the nation were divided into eight Student Congress chambers -- and debate began.

They set the docket -- chose the order in which 34 bills and resolutions would be presented for debate. For nine hours (3 three hour sessions) they debated. In their respective chambers, both Rob and David were nominated to compete in the Semi-final round. Around 9:30 PM the results of the voting were announced. David Arvelo was one of 48 students who advanced to the Semi-final round. He would need to be ready to debate 8 additional bills and resolutions at 8:00 on Sunday morning. For another three hour session, students debated. David did not advance to the Final round, but represented Fork Union Military Academy well.
Congratulations to Rob and David being superb representatives of Fork Union Military Academy.
