Cadets Arvelo and Courtney to Compete at Nationals
On May 28-29, 2005 Dave Arvelo and Rob Courtney will compete at the 2005 Grand National Tournament of the National Catholic Forensic League. They will travel to Milwaukee, Wisconsin for the competition and are two of six students who have been invited to compete in Student Congress from the Virginia Catholic Forensic League (Richmond Diosese).

Golf Tournament at Laurel Ridge Golf Tournament - Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. Tee-Off at 9:30 a.m.
Orienteering Meet at Pruitt Lake Pavilion - 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
Lacrosse Game at Gus Lacy Track - 2:00 p.m.
Silent Auction in Middle School Gymnasium - Doors open for bidding 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Alumni Association Dinner in Estes Dining Hall - Registration begins at 6:00 p.m., Dinner 6:30 p.m. $15 per person, $25 per couple
Attire for dinner is business or casual.

Registration in front of Hatcher Hall - 9:00 a.m.
Silent Auction in Middle School Gymnasium - Doors open for bidding at 9:00 a.m. All bids final at 1:30 p.m.

Campus Luncheon at Estes Dining Hall - 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. Alumnus and guest may eat for free. Additional guests, $7 per person.

Distinguished Alumnus, Lin Bates '48, Passed Away
Richard Linwood Bates, Sr. of FUMA's Class of 1948 passed away last night, March 21, 2005.
Lin Bates attended FUMA for four years. After graduating in 1948 he went to work for Dupont before enlisting in the U.S. Air Force. After serving in the Korean War he returned to Virginia to join in his family's farming business. In January 1960 he started Bates Brothers Trucking and served as president until retiring in 1992.
Lin was an active member of the Alumni Association and served on its board for many years. He was the first alumnus to receive the Distinguished Service Award, and also received the Distinguished Alumnus Award.
A scholarship named in his honor has been assisting cadets attend FUMA for many years. This scholarship fund was started by members of the Class of 1948 to honor their classmate.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, March 23, 2005 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Nelson Funeral Home Richmond, Va.
The funeral will be held on Thursday, March 24, 2005 at 10 a.m. at United Memorial Methodist Church Charles City, Va.

Michael Card In Concert
The award-winning Christian recording artist Michael Card will be on campus at Fork Union Military Academy on Thursday, March 31, 2005 for two special events - a chapel service for cadets, and a 7:00pm concert for the community as well as our cadets.
Michael Card is a familiar name to anyone who has listened to Christian music over the past two decades - he has written and recorded over 20 albums, including best-loved songs like "El Shaddai" and "Emmanuel." He is also the author of 14 books and a respected teacher of the Bible.

Michael Card will participate in a chapel service for FUMA cadets in the morning, and then will present a concert at 7:00PM in the 1500-seat Thomas Gymnasium on the FUMA campus.
This special concert is open to the public (suggested donation $10) and we invite all those who want to experience the finest of music, teaching, and worship to join us for this evening.
