State Qualifiers in Debate
Two members of the 2004-2005 FUMA Debate Team have earned trophies and received invitations to compete at State Finals which will be held on March 5, 2005. Rob Courtney and Jeremy O'Sullivan have become Student Congress State Qualifiers and Rob has also become a State Qualifier in Lincoln-Douglas Debate. Rob won third place and Jeremy won fifth place in Student Congress. In Lincoln-Douglas Debate Rob debated the topic, "Resolved: The United States has a moral obligation to promote democratic ideals in other nations." He won second place.
To become a State Qualifier, a debater must place fifth or better at a regular tournament. These tournaments are often attended by students from 20 to 25 of the public and private schools that choose to join the Virginia Catholic Forensic League.
