FUMA Prep romps over Heritage
By Cadet Matt Perry
There was a cool breeze blowing over the press box last Friday night as the Fork Union Blue Devils took the field. They would be squaring off against the Heritage High School "Pride". Coming off a 14-0 win against Paul VI last Friday, the Blue Devils were feeling confident, and there was a familiar smell in the air...Victory. Fork Union won the toss, and was set to receive.
The Blue Devil's first possession would set the tone for the entire game. They hit the ground running, with Tyrone Wilson leading the way, rushing for about 50 yards on the first play, and then running it into the end zone for a Fork Union touchdown. Heritage High School, wanting to prove that they were contenders, fired back with a long passing/rushing drive down the field, but the stone wall defense of the Blue Devils held them to just a field goal. In the second quarter FUMA had possession and with a hard sack their quarterback, Richard Jenson, fumbled the ball and the Heritage Pride recovered. FUMA, fired up, was not about to let them keep the ball. After a couple Heritage first downs, the defense comes out of nowhere with a huge interception, giving FUMA the ball back. During FUMA's next offensive drive Jenson completed a long pass to Brandon Caleb, who burned the opposition, running it in for an easy TD. FUMA went on to score several more times, and by the 4th quarter the score was lopsided in FUMA’s favor. Heritage had two touchdowns in the 4th quarter, but it was not enough to overcome the Fork Union Blue Devils this night. FUMA wins.
