FUMA plans Civic Responsibility Day for September 16
On Thursday, 16 September 2004, FUMA cadets will participate in a campus-wide civics event to promote political awareness and civic responsibility, to stimulate interest, and to educate students on the voting process.
The events are voluntary and will involve forums, discussions, the registration of eligible voters, a mock election, and a special speaker during chapel.
Representatives from both political parties will be located at tables in the dining facility. Cadets are encouraged to visit each table to learn about each candidate during the cadets' planning period. It is at this time that eligible voters may register to vote. Afterwards, the cadet may cast his "mock" vote for the candidate of choice at a third table.
At 1015 all cadets will report to chapel to hear from LTC Jones and a special speaker on civic responsibility.
Throughout the day (0900-1015 & 1100-1315), representatives from both parties will be available to visit classrooms to provide information on the voting process and presidential candidates. Interested teachers should contact CPT Eldridge to coordinate time of visit. Simultaneously, all Social Studies students will be in the library participating in forum/discussions about the political process, Electoral College, the candidates, and a question & answer session.
