As with many private schools, Fork Union Military Academy offers a rolling enrollment cycle. This means that it is never really "too late" to enroll your son in either the middle or upper school programs. While this option is not ideal for everyone, it can be a terrific starting point for many.

The VISAA All-State Football Team selections have been released and several outstanding FUMA players are honored. Russell Bodine and Mark Shuman, two of our offensive linemen were named to the 1st Team Offense. Joining them on the 1st Team Offense are wide receiver Akeem Garnett and running back Andre Parker. Bodine and Garnett were also named to the 1st Team Defense, Bodine at defensive line and Garnett at defensive back. Joining them on 1st Team Defense are defensive lineman Jacob Ruby and linebacker Jameal Turner.
The wrestling match scheduled for December 17th has been cancelled.
The deadline for ordering graduation announcements and other senior memorabilia is December 15th. All seniors were given the orderng packets on October 19th and were to get them to their parents. We have a large number of seniors who have not had orders placed. You can order the items online at www.jostens.com or you can contact the school representative at jeff.adams@jostens.com or call them at 434-589-2189. The representative will be most happy to help you with your questions or order.
The National Weather Service is forecasting that a winter storm may impact the central Virginia region this coming Friday and Saturday. Accordingly, the Academy invites you to pick up your cadet Friday December 18 at 12:30 pm. Please understand that Friday departure is not mandatory. We understand that for some, a Friday departure is not possible. However given the forecast we wanted you to have the option of beginning Christmas leave a bit early. The Academy faculty and staff wish your family a blessed Christmas and a joyous beginning to 2010.
Latrell Scott, FUMA '94, has been named the new head football coach at the University of Richmond. Scott played on FUMA's postgraduate football team in 93-94 and returned to Fork Union as an assistant coach under John Shuman after finishing his playing career at Hampton University. After gaining his first coaching experience with Coach Shuman, Scott went on to positions at Western Carolina, VMI, Richmond, Tennessee, and the University of Virginia.
Greyson Mann and Colin Ventrella traveled to Warwick High School (Newport News, VA) on December 12, 2009 to compete in Lincoln-Douglas Debate. Greyson again won two rounds and Colin won one round. They are excited to have new topics to research for January and February. Courtesy of Ginger Welch
On December 13 the FUMA Chess team competed with Hopewell High School, Appomatox Governers School, Grafton High School, Prince Anne High School, Louisa High School, and Colonial Heights. FUMA had 11 points for the day and won 1st place honors. Second place went to the Governers school with 9 points. Cadet Chung was high man for FUMA with 3.5 wins and followed by Albert Yeh, Yufeng Dai, and Jesse Jacobson with 2.5 wins each. It was Cadet Dai's first tournament which any score at all is fabulous. Prep Basketball defeated Fishburne Military School in the championship game of the Caisson Classic Military Schools Tournament yesterday. The final score was 68-41. Xavier Holland, Chris Bobo, Marquis Washington, Mark Shuman, and Joe Branch were named to the All-Tournament team and Chris Bobo was named Most Valuable Player of the tournament. New UVa head coach Mike London has close ties to FUMA. His son Brandon prepped for college at Fork Union before going on to UMass, the NY Giants (where he won a Super Bowl ring), and the Miami Dolphins. At today's press conference welcoming Coach London, NBC29 News sought out Coach John Shuman for his reaction to the UVa hire: NBC 29's story on London, with Shuman interview
The staff at VirginiaPreps.com has released the VirginiaPreps.com Private School All-State Team on their Web site. Fork Union Military Academy has four players selected to the All-State Team. Offensive linemen Russell Bodine and Mark Shuman were named for their outstanding play on offense. Bodine will play for North Carolina next year, and Shuman will play for Virginia Tech. Joe Branch and Jamael Turner were named for their excellence at the linebacker position on defense.
Scores: FUMA 133-59 St. Christopher's FUMA 148-27 Covenant FUMA 150-33 Nansemond-Suffolk Academy FUMA 151-11 John Paul the Great FUMA Swimming and Diving started the season this past Friday with four wins against STC, TCS, NSA, and John Paul the Great in double dual meet action.
