On the evening of October 26th, Fork Union Military Academy's Color Guard travelled to the Richmond Convention Center to open this year's annual Family Foundation Gala, featuring former Presidential Candidate Mike Huckabee as the keynote speaker. The FUMA Guard did a fine job of calling the room of approximately 1,500 participants to their feet as the Colors were presented. Following the Pledge of Allegiance, the entire audience joined in singing our nation's Anthem before settling in for a fine dinner and address from Governor Huckabee.

Throughout the years, Collegiate has made a name for themselves using the spread offense. We had one objective for the game, force Collegiate to run the ball to win. The Blue Devils started the game very flat and spotted the Cougars 21 points in the 1st Quarter. The next three quarters were a little more reminiscent of this year's Jr. Prep football team. Once focused, the Blue Devil's swarming defense shut down Collegiate's passing game and forced them to run the ball.

Again- this is the third of 3 chapters of a case study that I thought would be helpful as you consider a possible school change for your son. The first chapter was entitled "Why Change Schools", and the second was entitled "Why FUMA". This third and final chapter will be called "What FUMA Can Do". So far in our story we've gotten to know Junior, a rising sophomore at his moderately sized public school. We've learned that his achievement in school has fallen short of his potential as measured by test scores and teacher input.

The rifle team traveled to Hargrave today and lost a tough match, 1029-979. However, our score was a season high for us, and gives us some needed momentum going into the state championship match next Thursday (10/29) here at FUMA.

"The Early Show" on CBS recently did a feature on FUMA alum Kevin Laue, now a freshman at Manhattan College. Laue is the first one-handed player to receive a Division I basketball scholarship, but his qualities as an individual extend so far beyond the basketball court. CBS posted the segment for all to see on their YouTube Channel.
