Ms. Yonce, our head nurse, will be in the Tyson's Kiosk this weekend. She had two boys attend FUMA and can offer a unique perspective to anyone who would like a "mom's point of view." The Kiosk is located on the 2nd floor outside of Macy's main entrance. Now is a great time to inquire about October admission. If you are in the mall this weekend, please stop by and say hello.
October has arrived and FUMA's October enrollment date is right around the corner. If you are interested in you son enrolling at FUMA, there is no better time to start than the present. We are currently reviewing applications for all grades. This is the last term a senior can enroll and graduate in the current academic year. Why would a family choose October? Reasons are varied, but many boil down to the fact that they are not happy with the promises of improvement over last year not becoming a reality.
The Jr. Prep football team moves to 4-0 on the season after beating Woodberry Forest School on September 29th with a score of 32-0. The Blue Devil's swarming defense pitches their third consecutive shutout! Austin Stone, Mackenzie Sturtevant, and Gavin Marks all recorded one sack on the evening. Marks' sack led to a Matt Rude fumble recovery in the end zone. Who says a lineman can't score? Marshall Wiley added an interception giving him two on the year.
It has been very, very, busy in these opening weeks at FUMA. We now have 41 International students (South Korea, China, Lithuania, Poland, Ireland, Sudan, Canada, Mexico, Iceland, just to name a few) It has been a pleasure meeting and getting to know them. We took our first Upper School field trip last Sunday to The Natural Bridge and Caverns in VA. (Hence the title, International cadets "rock") We had a great time. Please check out our Photo Gallery for pictures.
Thank you to all who came out and made the 5th Annual Fork Union 4-Miler a great day! The official race results are posted below. For those of you who placed in your age/gender category and were not able to stay to received your prize, we will be happy to mail it to you. Of note: we do want to mention that a late entry this year forgot to wear his bib number and, by finishing the race in about 45 minutes without a bib number, bumped up all runners behind him in their times! This is just for your information and does not affect the winners in each category.
The following information is posted on our For Parents section of the website and will prove useful in contacting your cadet the first few weeks of school. It is a transition for cadets and parents. As a reminder, our FUMA Forum is an excellent way to communicate with other parents regarding their experiences at FUMA. Influenza like activity is rapidly increasing within the United States. Last week, Virginia surveillance reports maintain influenza activity at the "widespread" level which means that influenza is present in three or more of Virginia's five regions. Fork Union Military Academy is working in accordance with the Virginia Department of Health, following recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). FUMA has created a plan to include prevention, as well as, interventions.
