Admissions Director at the kiosk this weekend

I will be at the kiosk in Tysons Corner Center this Saturday and Sunday. If you are interested in your son attending FUMA in the fall, please stop by and I will be happy to speak with you about our program. The kiosk is located in the mall, just outside Macy's first floor main entrance. We stock plenty of admissions brochures and DVD's. Just stop by and ask for some information to take home. Please stop by and say hello.

Summer School Parents: SUPPORT OUR TROOPS

FUMA continues its ongoing participation in the Cell Phones for Soldiers program. Todate 150 phones have been collected and forwarded along for recycling. This translates into 150 hours of international talk time for soldiers deployed overseas in defense of our freedom. The collection box will be located at the sign out table on Saturday morning when summer school cadets are picked up. Bring any deactivated phones and accessories that you have managed to collect and drop them in the box as you pick up your son.

Two more Canadian athletes head south to Fork Union in 2009

Richard Quittenton and Nick Naimool have played football together for years. Now, they're both packing up from their homes in Canada to attend Fork Union Military Academy this coming year. Why are they making this trip? They both want to play Division I football and recognize that playing at Fork Union will offer them the recruiting opportunities they might lack at home. Also, Fork Union Military Academy's unique One Subject Plan will help them improve their grades and take courses needed for NCAA eligibility. Each hopes to attend Fork Union the next two years.

Summer is breezing by...............

It is almost the end of our Summer School session and we have definitely packed a lot into 4 weeks! School and grades have taken center stage, and I am very proud of the hardwork and success of our international students. In our spare time :) we took several field trips to places of history and interest in Virginia, such as Williamsburg, Richmond and Monticello. It was my pleasure meeting and interacting with these young men. Some will return in the fall and continue building on their successes at FUMA.

COLLEGE VISITS

Rising seniors take note: You have one month left of summer and it's a good idea to use some of it to visit colleges and universities to which you plan to apply in September. These visits give you an opportunity to see the campus, talk with admissions representatives, sample the dining hall food and perhaps even visit a class or two. Seniors are allowed to use only two school days from the entire school year to visit college campuses. These days can only be attached to regular two day leave weekends and thus do not allow you time to visit schools that are distant from home.

It's Almost Time!

It's Almost Time! Fall school admission is just around the corner. We are looking forward to a great and healthy year! Just a reminder that all students (new and returning) are required to have a new health form (as can be found on our download center under Health Form) completed and returned to the infirmary for each school year. You may mail, scan and email, or fax the forms. Please be sure to keep a copy for yourself and bring it with you on check in day, just in case the original hasn't arrived yet!

The (hypothetical) Story of Mrs. Smith- A Case Study

Saturday August 1 (last day of Summer Session)

This Saturday, August 1, is the last day of summer school. If your son is taking 1 class he will be done at 10am. If he is taking 2 classes, he will be done at 12pm(noon). Check-out will be at the Commandant's Department.

So what's behind the numbers?

In February of 2009, the Board of Trustees at Fork Union Military Academy determined that the Comprehensive Fee for boarding students enrolling for the 2009-2010 academic session would be $31,050. While this is a substantial cost, it is derived from the sum of three separate elements which include: 1. Tuition costs of $19,000 2. Room and Board costs of $8,750 3. Uniform costs of $3,300. By looking at at each of these cost points individually and understanding what's behind the number, the bottom line will appear less daunting. First, let's look at tuition.

Important senior/pg Information

The Senior/post-graduate information packet has been updated for 2009-2010 and is available in our download center. Now is the time to consult this packet for important information regarding SAT/ACT registration process, college application information and other items which are of vital interest to seniors, post-graduates and their parents.
