Cadet John Hight adds new title to his resume....Hero

Cadet John Hight, a senior at Fork Union Military Academy, completed an arduous three-hour swim through open ocean this past Sunday night to reach shore and call for help to rescue his two friends who remained with their capsized boat until pulled to safety by the US Coast Guard. Hight's mother credits his swim team experience as a boy with teaching him the breast stroke and his discipline learned at FUMA with giving him the strength to accomplish his feat. "I think a lot of his officer's training came in handy yesterday," Judy Hight said.

Coach Al Groh makes a recruiting visit to FUMA

Coach Al Groh, head football coach at the University of Virginia, traveled out to the campus of Fork Union Military Academy Monday morning to spend an hour-and-a-half visiting with Coach John Shuman and one of his top prospects, wide receiver Jacoby Ford, a player whom Coach Shuman has called "the fastest human being I've seen here in 25 years." Coach Shuman told Doug Doughty of the Roanoke Times this past week that Ford "is probably our best prospect ever. Ever.

Joe Erhmann Visit

By: Cadet Zachary Jones, 8th Grade Joe Erhmann spoke to the Middle School faculty and cadets in the library on October 4 and had some really inspiring things to say to us. A former Baltimore Colts standout, he talked to us about what it means to be a man. The world's aspect of being a man is to push away from all others and to show no emotions. Joe Mr. Erhmann speaks with the Middle School What he said to us is that being a man is to be able to say I love you.

Civics Day on October 11, 2005

Fork Union Military Academy will be participating in Civics Day again this year with a number of organized activities being held on campus in Fork Union, VA. On Tuesday, October 11th visitors to the Academy will focus on state and local government and the electoral process. Joyce Pace, Fluvanna County's local registrar will discuss the Virginia state and local electoral processes from 9:00 to 9:35 a.m. in the Beatty Library. She will also be available to register eligible voters.
