A Prep Football Season to Remember

What a great year for FUMA's Prep Football team!  After a tough loss to Hermitage on Labor Day Weekend in a game televised on ESPNU, the team rallied to finish the season 11-3, and earn honors as Prep League Champions and the VISAA Division 1 State Runner-up.

The list of accomplishments of this team doesn't end there. The Blue Devils had 13 players named to the All-Prep Team - the most of any school in the Prep league.  Additional accolades included the Prep League Player of the Year, Quarterback Christian Hackenberg, and the Prep League Coach of the Year, Coach Micky Sullivan.  The team also had 4 players selected to the Virginia Prep/Rivals.com All-State team QB Christian Hackenberg, K Dylan McCormick, LB Deondre Wright and DB Malcolm Cook, which is also more than any other private school in the Commonwealth of Virginia.  Other notable achievements include: Falcon Club Players of the Week DB Malcolm Cook and LB T.J. Dudley; Sports Illustrated High School Player of the Week, Christian Hackenberg and Sports Illustrated High School Coach of the Week Micky Sullivan.  Last but certainly not least, Coach Sullivan and Christian Hackenberg will represent FUMA in the nationally-televised Under Armour All-American game on January 4, 2013.

The accomplishments of this team aren't solely based on public awards and achievements.  Without question, the most important accomplishment is that the players represented Fork Union's "commitment to excellence" both on and off the field.  Each and every player involved with the team, the position coaches, and the equipment staff and trainers worked hard from preseason camp to the final whistle of the Championship Game and they have every right to be proud of the results. This Blue Devil team stayed humble in victory, gracious in defeat, and hung together through adversity and triumphs.  Through all these actions, the Fork Union Prep Football team proved itself to be much more than a football team; rather, it is a close-knit family and one that left a lasting legacy at Fork Union Military Academy.
