Resource / Learning Skills Program

The Middle School offers a Resource Program, designed to provide focused assistance to students with diagnosed learning differences such as ADD, ADHD, and mild learning disabilities. This program provides the equivalent of one class period per day of academic support to enrolled students and is taken in place of the students’ Activity Period (Art, Computers, and Drama). Class sizes range from 3 to 5 students per period. Instruction is provided by an experienced teacher possessing the training and knowledge to work with students having special needs. Intervention involves:

  • training in organizational skills, study skills, and
  • test-taking skills,
  • monitoring for the completion of assignments,
  • pre-teaching and review of content material,
  • computer programs to enhance instruction,
  • regular communication between the resource teacher
  • and the students’ academic teachers.

The ultimate goal of this program is to help students with learning differences prepare to learn in a college preparatory academic program. Candidates for this course should have at least average ability, no accompanying emotional or behavioral conditions, a sincere desire to improve academic performance, and the motivation to improve their preparation for the future.

Participation is optional, and students interested in the program must be accepted for enrollment at the Academy’s Middle School through the normal admissions process.

An additional fee of $1200 for the school year is charged for the Resource Program.
