Letter from the Director
Dear Students and Parents,
Thank you for your interest in the four-week Summer School at Fork Union Military Academy. Our highly structured program is intended to challenge students to grow in body, mind, and spirit.
Academic & Athletic Program
The academic program provides students the option of taking one traditional core course for new credit (140 hours) or repeating two subjects (70 hours each) to recover lost academic credits and improve grades. A strong offering of athletic and recreational activities provides students opportunities to utilize our extensive facilities to enhance their development physically.
Christian Values
Christian values and biblical principles undergird the entire program of Fork Union Military Academy. Our students are expected to conduct themselves with kindness and and respect, and this expectation is reinforced and clarified in the chapel services and student assemblies held during the week and Sunday mornings. Our goal is to provide young men a framework within which they may apply themselves toward achieving their academic potential while growing as men of character and integrity.
A Sound Framework
We have a brief period of time in which to accomplish a number of important objectives. The daily schedule is a rigorous and demanding one. Discipline, supervision, and accountability are key components of our program. Fork Union Military Academy values the trust parents and guardians place in us when making such an important investment in each young man's future. Our mutual objective is the greatest return on this investment. The framework we provide is sound.
An Opportunity for Success
The young man who avails himself of this great opportunity may experience the kind of satisfaction and success that can alter the course of his life. There are many students who join us for this month to enrich their academic experience and forge ahead in further establishing their credentials for college admission. Others join us because they have fallen short of their potential and need such an opportunity to discover the difference that determination, hard work, and discipline can make in their lives.
There will be many young men whose success this summer will lead them to continue with us by enrolling at FUMA in the fall. Others will return to their schools with an improved academic foundation, enhanced study skills, and the motivation and determination to apply themselves as never before. Our program works. I wish I had the words to express the gratification that comes with witnessing the growth and transformation that takes place in so many young men's lives as they discover the extent of their capabilities. There is nothing like it.
Come and visit
I urge you to consider visiting the campus as a part of the enrollment process. Please contact us if you have questions concerning admissions or the Summer Session in general.
