Leave Information

Upper School - From the Commandant

All leave weekends are listed on the FUMA Academic Calendar, a copy of which can be found in the Download Center. Times of departure and return are listed by each of the major leaves. Please look carefully for they may differ for each leave.

All other leave weekends will begin after class on Fridays (12:30 PM) and Upper School cadets must be back on campus no later than 7:30 PM on Sunday evenings.

Also located in the Download Center are the charter bus schedules for the major leaves. Transportation is offered to several locations in Northern Virginia, Hampton, Charlottesville and Richmond. Times are listed for departure from FUMA as well as departure times from the various destinations back to FUMA. On all other leave weekends, we offer a charter bus to the Richmond Greyhound Station, from where our cadets either catch another bus home or a cab to the airport or train station.

Additional information regarding leaves can be found in the "Information for Parents from the Commandant's Department" guide which can also be found in the Download Center.

Reminder: A "Leave Permission Form" must be on file in the Leave Office before leave will be granted. If you have not yet submitted one, they can be found in the Download Center of the website. This form states your desires for your son's leave status for the year. A new form is not needed for each leave; however, any changes to the form must be made in writing and faxed to (434) 842-4242.

A young man going on leave with anyone other than his parents or guardians must have two things on file in the Leave Office: 1) Permission from his parents/guardians (the "Leave Permission Form"), and 2) a written invitation from anyone other than the parents/guardians. This information must reach the Leave Office prior to 4:00 PM on the Wednesday prior to the leave weekend.

It is important to take note of these procedures and understand it is your son's obligation to adhere to the leave policies. As you and your son plan for the available weekend leaves, you should remind him that he must maintain his eligibility for leave privileges by complying with cadet regulations (staying out of "demerit trouble"), and maintaining passing grades.
