Endowment & Scholarships

The endowment is Fork Union Military Academy's savings account - it is accumulated capital invested to generate earnings. These earnings and capital gains then become the optimal source of return that allows the Academy to optimize its programs. Earnings from the endowment are the most desirable source of funding for supporting the Academy's most important assets - its cadets and their instructors.

FUMA's endowment has grown to over $15.6 million. The endowment fund is another vital part of "Securing the Promise" for future cadets. The Academy spends only a portion of the total return of an endowed fund and reinvests the remainder to protect against the impact of inflation and adverse market conditions. As the endowment grows, it will help ensure the strength and stability of the Academy and help continue our mission.

Endowed Scholarships

Scholarship funds at the Academy are a way of providing deserving families the needed financial support to send their son to FUMA. As the costs of education continue to rise, the Academy apportions a part of its operating budget in support of tuition assistance. In addition, the Academy is blessed to have a small number of privately funded endowed scholarship accounts which every year augment the funds available for financial aid.

Most of the endowed scholarship funds are named either for the principal donor to the fund or for a special person associated with FUMA who has been an inspiration to the fund's donor.

Anyone interested in creating an endowed scholarship fund, or adding to one already in existence, should contact Cathy Hitchcock, Director of Advancement Services, at 434/842-4227 or email hitchca@fuma.org. Your support secures the promise of the Academy's future for the next generation of cadets.
