Fork Union Military Academy is a Christian boarding & day school that has been building young men in body, mind, and spirit since 1898. FUMA seeks dedicated faculty and staff professionals who see this school's mission as their own and will strive to support the values of the institution.

Teaching contracts are generally for 9 months and all teachers are expected to participate in 2 outside activities in addition to teaching, such as sports coaching or student club sponsorship.

Staff positions are generally 12 month contracts.

Academic Dean

Fork Union Military Academy is searching for our next Academic Dean.  The Dean, who reports directly to the President, will supervise all aspects of the Upper School (high school and postgraduate program), including department heads, faculty, guidance counselors, and information technology with general oversight of the Middle School program.  The Dean will develop and implement curriculum planning, policies, and programs to move towards becoming a national leader among independent boarding schools. 

The Dean will ensure the academic programs exemplify excellence, especially in the areas of preparation for higher education, and will provide encouragement and inspiration to the students.  This will be done in a school environment and culture that promotes Christian values, exemplifies the best aspects of the military, and builds character, self-discipline, and critical thinking skills essential for life-long learning, leadership, and service to others. 

The Academic Dean will oversee the hiring process for new faculty, observe classroom instruction, oversee the faculty evaluation process, coordinate the curriculum, and establish a professional development program.  The ideal candidate will have proven leadership and team-building skills; an ability to reach out and build community (particularly with today's parents); expertise with technology as a teaching resource; the initiative and creativity to develop a challenging, innovative, and exciting curriculum; and an understanding of life and work in a boarding school community. 

All candidates must have an active interest, knowledge, and understanding of education.  They must be persuasive communicators including effectual listening.  All candidates must have a master's degree or higher; at least five years of classroom teaching; administrative experience and experience with curriculum design models.  The Academic Dean also requires humility, patience, and persistence. 

Fork Union Military Academy is one of the premier college preparatory boarding military schools for boys in grades 6-12 and postgraduate located in Fork Union, Virginia, right in the heart of central Virginia.  We offer high quality academics and athletics within a structure built around Christian values, integrity, respect, faith, character and leadership.  Founded in 1898, FUMA enrolls approximately 400 boarding and 40 day students.

Registered Nurse

We are currently seeking a Registered Nurse with a degree from an accredited nursing program, with a valid Virginia or Compact Nursing license, BLS certification is also required.  This person will provide direct nursing care to our cadets as needed, including assessment, intervention, documentation and follow up.  This person will communicate with personnel and parents as needed regarding cadets health needs.   This person must also be able to multitask and be very detail oriented.  The schedule will include overnight and weekend shifts.  We are looking for a candidate with at least 5 years experience.
