Academic Program
The Middle School academic program emphasizes basic knowledge and thinking skills. Through a challenging curriculum, cadets are provided the instruction and encouragement they need to be successful, and the training they receive improves their likelihood of success as they move on to high school.
Class Size and Schedule of Classes
Class sizes of 10-15 assure personal attention. A typical student schedule consists of English, math/pre-algebra/algebra 1, science, history, health and physical education, and an activity period, involving instruction in art, computers, and drama. Eligible eighth graders have the opportunity to take French I as an alternative to the activity period.
Semesters & Grading Periods
The academic year is divided into two semesters, with each semester comprised of three six-week grading periods.
Report Cards
Report cards and individualized comment forms are sent home at the end of each grading period. Additional progress reports are sent midway through a grading period.
Study Hall
A mandatory Study Hall session, which is closely supervised by an instructor, is held Sunday through Thursday evenings from 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm. Cadets who maintain exemplary grades and excellent conduct are permitted the privilege of studying in their own rooms.
Extra Help
For cadets needing academic assistance, extra help sessions are offered by the teachers twice weekly following the class day. For those requiring additional time to complete assignments, an extra study period is available following the regularly scheduled Study Hall session.
Resource Class Available
A resource class is also available for a designated fee, which provides extra academic assistance to those cadets in need.
