Leave InformationParents and Guardians of Middle School Cadets: (A full memo regarding leave eligibility and status will be sent to all parents/guardians in September from the Office of the Commandant in the Middle School. Below is an abbreviated version of the leave policies for Fork Union Military Academy Middle School cadets. Any questions regarding the leave policy should be referred to MAJ Blanchetti at blanchetti@fuma.org or LTC Washington at washington@fuma.org. Leave Eligibility Parents are reminded that their son can only be granted leave in accordance with the permission they have authorized on the eligibility form. In the event your son wishes to visit any other place, written permission must be on file in the Middle School office prior to the requested date of leave. It is also requested that in the event you wish to have a member of our cadet corps as a guest in your home, that you extend a written invitation to him prior to the requested date of leave. Telephone calls giving permission cannot be accepted. Types of Leaves The three types of leaves are: (1) major holiday vacations; (2) weekend leaves; and (3) day passes. All cadets are granted the three holiday vacation leaves (Thanksgiving, Christmas, Spring Break); however, each weekend leave and each day pass is an earned-privilege. The Headmaster and Commandant reserve the right to deny leave privileges to a cadet for an academic deficiency or as a consequence for behavior. Leave Requests Requests for leave must be submitted in writing using the supplied leave request form or via an email informing the school of (1) the date of leave requested, (2) the mode of transportation, and (3) the name of the driver, if traveling by car. This information needs to be submitted by 5:00 PM on the Wednesday prior to Friday for which leave is requested. Every leave requires a leave request. Requests may be emailed to washington@fuma.org or mailed to LTC Washington, Leave Officer at FUMA Middle School, PO Box 278, Fork Union, VA 23055. Fax: (434) 842-4269 No change should be made to your son's travel after 5:00 PM on Wednesday prior to the leave weekend. Check out/Check in Times Weekend leaves begin at 1:00 pm on Friday and end at 7:00 PM on Sunday. Refer to the school calendar for exceptions. Return time from major vacations is 7:00 PM. Cadets must check out with the Commandant on Friday and check in with the Faculty Officer in Charge on Sunday by 7:00 PM.
