Religion inquiry especailly for years 2007-08-09-10
Thu, 09/09/2010 - 10:58am
Having spent 5 years at FUMA with little religious experience, I am gathering information from my fellow cadets on their opinions as to what was received by them on the religion side of FUMA. Did we pray for prayers so that we could sleep in chapel, or were we excited with the talks/presentation of what was said that it kept us awake? Did you ever accept Christ or desire to rededicate your life in Chapel due to the message heard?
Please let me hear from you as I gather information for my doctorate degree. Should you wish to not leave a post, please email me at jbrow61@bellsouth.net. All information is confidential with no names.
In His Light,
Rev. Jay Brown (71), BBA, MBA, CPA, MDiv

To stateofmind
I disagree with what you just said. The school is a BAPTIST military school so of course it needs to be run by God. And the fact that no private ever gets any student government position is not true, because in 2009 the class president was a private. And if you look at the kids with rank that have these student government position is voted on by the students such as National Honor Society and the senior class positions. The cadets with rank who have these positions are almost always in the top 10 of the graduating class and have few demerits and the kids that try the hardest.

Religion at Fork Union
During my years at fork union, i encountered a few types of cadets. There were the cadets who would come out of chapel laughing at the chaplain's message. Then there were the ones who could honestly care less about what he said and were asleep most of the time. Then there were the ones who took what the chaplain said seriously. Now given there were some in the middle of these three categories, these were the main groups I saw. Now the its hard to preach to a group of kids in military school who don't want to be there and still try and keep everything under control. However, in saying that, the way fork union should be run is the way America is run,"the separation between church and state". I know the chaplain wants to have authority but that is just not the way things are supposed to work. Also now that i am on the subject, the school should be more concentrated on a student government system that gets most cadets and not just the over-acheivers who only want the position to put on their college resume. That being said, fork union needs to actually take a good look at who they put into these student government positions. A lot of the privates think...excuse me..a lot of the privates know that many of the student government positions, and as a matter of fact all good things at the school, are given to those with rank. Not that the ones with rank aren't qualified its just that it is a corrupt system and no other kids even have a chance to get anywhere in that realm. That is all i have to say for now. Remember, the state of your situation depends on your StateofMind.

I went to Fork Union for
I went to Fork Union for three years and graduated this past year and I think I can talk for many of my fellow grads and current cadets when I say chapel at Fork Union is awesome! Chaplain Benson has been a great role model and chaplain to the cadets at Fork Union. Chaplain Benson is a great influence on the cadets. He is there for you if you ever need help with God or if you just need to talk to someone and you have no one to turn to. Recently we have had someone baptised in the chapel and Chaplain Benson has started a youth group that has continued to grow. I want to thank Chaplain Benson for everything that he has done and will continue to do for many more years at Fork Union!

I loved chapel. I mastered
I loved chapel. I mastered the art of sleeping with my eyes open during those sermons (especially after Coach Jones left). I spent three years at FUMA and there was a small minority of cadets who actually looked forward to chapel. But the rest of us just used it to sleep.
