Hello

I am considering FUMA for my son. I am a single mom; my son doesn't have any contact with his dad and I think that having the male leadership in the school would help him. My son has experienced a great deal of peer pressure here in Ohio and I don't want my son to continue down the wrong path. As well, my son is extremely intelligent and I feel the experience would be beneficial for him. I guess my question is are there any other single moms that can share any experiences as to how they were able to make it work sending their son to school in a different state and still be able to maintain a normal life in another state. I'm really just not sure how I can make this work. Please advise if anyone has similar circumstances. Thanks.

Advice for a Single Mom

Hello Ms. Butler, I am not a single mother but I do have a son that attends Fuma. We reside in Michigan which is just as far. This is his second year at FUMA and I would not have it any other way. I was on the site and speaking with another mom who's son attends Fuma and she said you can call her at 202.344.5194, she would be happy to speak with you.

I look forward to meeting you and your son in the fall.

Advice

Greetings,
I am the Director of Guidance and Counseling services for FUMA and as such see a lot of boys with single moms at home. I have found the FUMA experience can be invaluable for such young men and in many cases serves to really strengthen the mother-son relationship. While I can't speak towards handling things on your end, I can say that each of the boys finds several excellent male role models which whom he bonds while here at FUMA. If you need more info, please feel free to e-mail me and if you don't hear from some moms let me know and I'll contact a couple who are in your situation.
