Hi, our son started at FUMA as a freshman this year. As we live in Germany, he may need to spend Thanksgiving, winter- and spring break with his grandmother in Matthews, NC (near Charlotte). Does anybody know about carpools to Charlotte? Please let us know if you do! Thanks! Annette & Tuck :D

Carpool to NC for Thanksgiving Break

Hi Janis,

You did meet me during Parent Weekend, and I'll be glad to take your son David to Greensboro. The only landmark I know there is that Convention Center. Do you know the one I'm talking about? I don't know about the way back. We'll figure that one later. With David, it'll be 3 cadets coming home.
Why don't you post your cell phone, and I'll get in touch w/ you early next week. IN the meantime, if you'd let the Commandant's office know that he'll be leaving w/ me(Carolina Alexander), that would be great.

Janice,

No, I think the lady you are talking about is Carolina Alexander.
I know she has a son named John.
I'm the one currently living in Germany. My son Chris will actually fly to Boston this Thanksgiving, but we will be needing the NC car pool option in the future, to get him to Charlotte to see his grandmother there.
Hope everything works out with the car-pooling!

Annette :)

Thanksgiving carpooling

I think you are the lady I met during the Parent Weekend. Is your son John in the Band? Does he play the trombone? Do you know High Pointers who visit Blowing Rock? Do you speak Spanish and have lived in Peru? Anyway, I speak Spanish too; I lived in Venezuela and Guatemala. :-)

If so, is the offer of a ride for Thanksgiving still open for my son, David? The calendar shows Sat. 11/21 9am. You said you could drop him off in Greensboro on the way to Statesville. If so, tell me where, as I work in Lexington (on the way to Charlotte) and I will plan to meet you there.
Now, by way of carpooling, you will need to tell me how to do this as I'm new at this. Would you like me to do the return Thanksgiving trip? How does this work?

Looking forward to hearing back from you. Janis

Ride to NC

Our son John Alexander is in the 10th grade and we will be picking him up for Thanksgiving leave. We live in Statesville, NC about 45 minutes north of Charlotte. Let us know if we can help.

Hi Sharon and Jennifer,

I think it would be great if they could all fly together! I need to wait until I hear from Chris for the first time at the end of this month though, to see if he wants to go to Charlotte or Florida. It would be great if we could stay in touch. My email is rhinegirl2@aol.com and I'll get back in touch with you as soon as I know details. Thanks again!

This will be my son Bryan's first time flying and I wonder if it is possible that he could book the same flight into Charlotte with your son for the Thanksgiving leave? You can email me at shaej57@bellsouth.net

Thanks, Sharon

Hi Annette and Jennifer, our son Bryan is a PG this year at FUMA. We live about 50 miles west of Charlotte in Forest City, NC. Thanks for the airline tip it sounds like a great option I am going to check the rates.

Annette,

Just wanted to let you know I was able to book Brandon's flight for Thanksgiving leave for $202 round trip through US Air (flying out of Richmond). Just to let you know about another option.

Hi Annette! Our family also lives in Matthews, NC. What a small world. Our son usually flies home for most major leaves because it is much cheaper for us than the drive and hotel room. If your son does this, my son Brandon will be flying too. Brandon flies out of Richmond or Charlottesville depending on the rates. If you ever want them to travel together, just let me know. Also, if we ever do decide to drive for one of the major leaves, your son is welcome to ride with our family. Let me know if I can be of any further assistance.
