Coach Haynie was the 8th grade English teacher for my three years in the Junior School (83-86). He looked out for me, and I even bought a Fork Union engraved sabre from him. Was wondering if anyone knew how he was doing?

Thanks.

Coach Haynie (Dave) is my brother-in-law -- married to my sister Elizabeth Blair Haynie for nearly 30 years... after leaving FUMA, Dave went to be head coach at Manchester High School in Chesterfield, VA; he left there to go to teach and coach at Carroll County HS in Hillsville, VA and then to McDowell County HS near Asheville, NC... he is now Athletic Director at North Wilkes HS in Wilkesboro, NC, about 40 miles west of Winston-Salem where I went to college (Wake Forest). I visited the Haynies this summer and they have an awesome house one street over from a beautiful golf course, and a really nice little town. Dave looks EXACTLY the same as he did while at FUMA - not a greay hair on his head, full head of hair, still addicted to football and still has the same great energy and personality. He has done a LOT for the schools where he has worked through the years -- from improving their facilities and building more community interest and support to actually starting "feeder" programs within the local community that gave younger kids a way to get involved in football at an earlier age.

If you want to get in touch with Dave, his home number is 336-818-0083.

It was funny, for the four years I was at FUMA, only the Junior School teachers scared or intimidated me. Capt Haynie, Capt Cobb, Col Clark, Capt Snead. Capts Cobb and Snead were great teachers and men but you never wanted to see them angry. They also loved to hand out ED tours.
