The family of Curtiss A. Powell is creating an endowed scholarship in his honor and memory. They are asking for the support of friends to help reach their goal and assist deserving future cadets. This scholarship would become a living memorial to Curtiss at the Academy.

Curtiss graduated from FUMA in 2005; he was an outstanding linebacker/running back on FUMA's Prep football team and played in two state championship games. He received a full football scholarship to Southern Methodist University. Coach Sullivan remembers Curtiss as someone who "played each game his hardest" and applauded his work ethic and "toughness" on the field. Curtiss' untimely death in 2008 cut too short a young life filled with promise. In their love and grief, the family has asked the Academy for its assistance in creating a living memorial to Curtiss through an endowed scholarship.

With the sacrificial support of family and friends, the goal is almost realized. All gifts, whether large or small, would help the family to realize this dream and permanently endow the Curtiss A. Powell Memorial Scholarship. Contact Cathy Hitchcock at the Development Office for more information (434)842-4227 or hitchca@fuma.org on how you can help.
