Upper School Newspaper

Just out of curiousity, when did the Upper Schol newspaper change from "Skirmisher" to "Front and Center"? It's kind of sad to see that since I was on the Skirmisher's staff for two years.

I remember my interview with Col. Lacy back in 1981. That man could remember every detail about every cadet and their families. An amazing, as well as kind hearted, man.

Gar, I suppose you noticed that I wasn't sure whether Saber or Sabre was the correct spelling for the newspaper, either?
FutureCadet, you'll find that the alumni continue that male tradition of picking on those younger than them when given the opportunity. Next, they'll tell you that FUMA has gone soft because we allow televisions and air conditioning in the barracks

I swear you are virtually coddling the cadets.

As a suggestion for convincing your parents that you should attend the Academy; tell them it would help with your comprehension and spelling skills.

OK cool thanks Capt. Dan that would be great...
And about calling something The Bugal... I don't know how much the band there at FUMA does but if they do a good bit then maybe you could have the band do their own newspaper called that (Since Bugal has to do with the band)... IDK just an idea...

The Bayonet is still being published a few times each year (I'll check to see if I've missed getting some recent issues posted to the web!).
The upper school newspaper was indeed called The Sabre (or was it Saber??) and the yearbook is the Skirmisher.
I suppose we ought to have something around here called The Bugle, but I can't think of anything....

I was on the "Art Staff" for The Bayonet with Collins and I still have a Christmas 1970 issue; as well as two others including a 1971 Christmas and a Spring 1972 issue. For the latter two issues, Virzi T.J. and Campbell W.O. were the "Comic Staff." I visited W.O. last summer and shared a view of the issues with him. We had a good laugh!

Just a quick question.
I got done reading some of the editions of THE BAYONET and i realized that the most recent one was back in March i believe. So i was just wondering how often they put those out. Personally i think they should do one every month, because that is pretty cool for me at least to see what people at FUMA do.
Just a suggestion thanks.

I thought the Newspaper was called the "Saber" and the Skirmisher was the Year book.
Forgive me, as I am old and do not know better.

In 2004 there was a bit of a problem with the student-authored newspaper. The publication of that kind of came to a screeching halt. The Front & Center kind of took its place as a newsletter, authored primarily by CPT Houston Eldridge, and appropriate for parents and alumni as well as students.

I remember the alumni coming through the barracks on parade weekends commenting on how well we had it in the late 1980s. I used to think they were old cranks. I guess I'm the old crank now!
Seriously, FutureCadet, I hope you make it into FUMA. If any school can maintain a forum where 20+ year alumni can still ramble about the old days and be razzed by the current faculty, then you know this is a great school to attend. It is a shame that you won't be able to have your first FUMA interview with Colonel Gus Lacy, one of the finest gentlemen to grace FUMA.
