Church Bells
Tue, 05/06/2008 - 10:51am
Ok I have one for all of you... Have you ever caught yourselves closing your eyes when you hear church bells today and think back on those that you would hear at FUMA?? You know this sounds weird and call me what you will 8) but I do that and I think back of those days and it really takes me back. :) Kind of like a good flash back... :D

Church Bells
Middle school graduation is still held in the Chapel. Upper School graduation is held on the football / parade field in good weather. And, yes, Echo Taps is still a very poignant and powerful moment. There is, perhaps no more emotionally-loaded and reflective music than the sound of Echo Taps...

Church Bells
Yes, still grey...and white for Sundays (or other Class A occasions).
One thing I've noticed, however: The short sleeve shirts give the Commandant another tool to use....I recall one year recently when it was quite a while after the Easter break before the Cadet Corps came out of long sleeves and ties and into the short sleeves and open necks.....apparently there were some problems with a number of the cadets remembering to keep their shirts properly tucked in, and the longer it took them to learn, the longer the Corps stayed in the long sleeves.

Church Bells
Short sleeve shirts!!?? When did that happen? Are they still grey, with white for parade Sundays? Yes, church bells sometimes remind me of the Chapel. My best memory of Chapel was standing in the foyer playing echo taps at graduation (Jr. School). Big day and a very good memory to have.

Church Bells
Great days in the spring (when they finally let us wear short sleeve shirts again), sitting around the circle and hanging out. I can remember the bells.
