Our son is a new cadet (10th grade) from Kernersville, NC, which is between Winston Salem and Greensboro. We are interested in whether there are any other cadets from this area who might be interested in carpooling over leave weekends and/or holidays.

carpooling

Kernersville? I live in High Point, but work in Lexington (20 min from WS - on I-85 towards Charlotte. I see it takes you 3 hours - it takes me around 4 hours. I've been taking 150 to 29 up through Danville, Chatham, etc and taking 6 into FUMA. I'm not entirely sure as I use my GPS and sometimes the routing is creative.

My son, David is in Charlie Co. I was most interested in carpooling for the holidays, but have not checked out price etc for train or bus. Thanks for the train quotes into Raleigh - doesn't sound too bad. Still, it's nice to know there are options other than public transportation at times.

NC Carpool

Hi Rosemarie. Good to get your email. We usually travel 158 to 29 north to 360, and then pick up 15 in Keysville. It takes us a little over 3 hours one way as well. I'm sure we can work something out that would keep both of us from traveling so far each time. Yes, we are coming up for parents' weekend and look forward to meeting you and seeing what we can work out. Our son, Hunter, is in Charlie Company.

Carpool inquiry

Hello Landon and Valerie Smith:

My son is a first year 9th grader at FUMA, and we live in the Raleigh/Cary NC area, although not exactly around the corner from Winston Salem, maybe we could share some of driving burden and carpool?? We usually take 85 North to Roxboro and then Hwy 15 into FUMA, not sure if this is the same route as you take but perhaps there is a place to meet along the way. Driving 3 hrs each way is getting old and we just started! I also looked into the train, and there is train from Richmond to Cary, that takes about 3 & 1/2 hrs and is $25 for a one way ticket , which is also a possibility, but not our 1st choice. If this makes sense for you please let us know, we are going up for Parents Weekend so we could meet there to say hello and see if carpooling works,

regards,
Rosemarie
