Potential Parent Inquiry
Wed, 07/13/2005 - 8:17pm
We live in California and our son is interested in attending Fork Union. We are extremely active in his current high school -- he will be a senior in August -- and the campus is just a few blocks from our home. We are in frequent contact with teachers and staff at his campus. We attend all the fundraisers, football games, wrestling matches, debate tournaments, etc. I am sensing we will be in for a shock since we will be 3,000 miles away. Are there any parents out there who are long-distance parents? Can you give me information on keeping in touch with your son? How do you communicate regularly? How often do you see your son? Are there activities/events that you attend? Boarding school is a new venture for us, and I would appreciate any input. Thanks, Kathy

Potential Parent Inquiry
Hi, Kathy. I believe I met your husband this afternoon at FUMA! Yes, we have current cadet families in California. In fact, the chairs of our Parents' Association, Renee Fraley and her husband Pat, live in California and can tell you about sending four sons to FUMA. Renee's e-mail address is on our "For Parents" page and I know she'd be happy to correspond with you. We have other families and alumni in California and I'm gathering some names of others you can contact. Your husband (assuming I've got the right connection here...) left me his business card and I will call you with some other contact names you can talk to.
