Classroom Blogs
Some of our teachers offer "classroom blogs" where they may feature students' work, writing, podcasts, and other content.
I have been enjoying learning more about the celebration of Chinese New Year through the ESL students' compositions comparing and contrasting American and Chinese New Year celebrations. It has been fun to make paper lanterns to hang on our classroom door and to understand more of the meanings behind various traditions. The new year has begun very well at FUMA, and I wish everyone a healthy and blessed 2012!
Several of our ESL students are interviewing their classmates to find out what they did for Thanksgiving break. We will be posting quotes from each of the ESL students over the next few days. Stay tuned!
The 8th grade activity period has undergone a major shift this year. Using the assumption that “struggle leads to revolution which ultimately leads to innovation,” the Art, Computer and Drama teachers, in collaboration with the Middle School Librarian, will guide the cadets in their study. Through this framework, the students will take on different roles as some do research on the Ford Assembly Line and the conclusions that can be drawn for how it influenced the creation and implementation of wind turbines and green technology. Other students will be focused on ancient Greek theater and the transformation that theater has undergone to reach the development of 3-D movies that can be streamed to cell phones. A final group will focus on the transformation of art from architecture to sculptural design.
The participants in the Collaborative Activity Period will be working in teams of two as they study different facets of art, drama and technology to become scholars in their particular field. After the research phase, the participants will then teach their peers what they have learned, highlighting how it all connects in terms of struggle, revolution and innovation.
The students will be working on a project that will culminate in May which will showcase their understanding of the different genres of their studies. The cadets will be posting on this blog to inform you of what has been going on in this class. This will provide not only a written account of this collaborative class, but will make possible photograph and video updates. Stay tuned to see what these creative young men produce in this exciting new class!
I am delighted to have the opportunity to teach ESL once again this term, and I look forward to showcasing the students' work and experiences through this forum of our classroom blog.
Captain America woke up in 2019. He had slept for 70 years. He was confused. “Where am I? Am I dead?” he thought. And then he knew the truth.
The science technology in 2019 was very strong. The scientists used a kind of machine that made him awaken. He realized he was alive again and he was still strong. He got better clothes and weapons. He started working for the U.S. Army. He wanted to study more and learn more knowledge. He wanted to be a strong and clever man. He always helped people.

Galen was a soldier who was a normal soldier as well as a special one. He had good characteristics which others hardly had, including being kind, trustworthy, honest, loyal and caring. In addition, he had a very strong body which made him special, too. He was very brave, so he was always in the front of his team. He really wanted others to be alive so he worked very hard, and tried his best to help soldiers who were in danger.
