Recent Chapel messages

Since my last posting, we have had three Sunday services and four weekday services.  On Sundays, we are walking through the Gospel of Luke and during our weekday services we are examining the Beatitudes as found in Matthew 5:3-11 by looking at each verse individually.

For our study on Luke, we have looked at the basic history of Luke's work and the environment in which it was written.  We have also looked at the role of John the Baptist in preparing the way for the arrival of Jesus Christ (and the cadets have been challenged to consider who the "John the Baptists" might be in their own lives).  We also looked at the Christmas story in Luke 2, the role of the shepherds, and the statements about Jesus growing in stature and wisdom.

Pre-season chapel messages

Even though the entire corps of cadets wasn't on campus until September 1, we have already had two chapel services on campus this school year (2011-2012).  The football players who arrived for pre-season training attended chapel on Sunday morning, August 21.  The following Sunday, they were joined by the soccer players and cadet leadership.  Below are the summaries for the topics covered.

Here are some brief synopses of recent chapel messages at FUMA:

Chapel messages, week of 4/10/11

Sunday, April 10
Today in chapel we looked at the variety of personalities, stories, and people that God uses to help spread the message of Jesus Christ.  We watched the testimony of a man named Brian "Head" Welch, who is (by outward appearances) not what most would picture when hearing the phrase "on fire for God."  (The video clip was from a great web site, I Am Second, which has various powerful testimonies posted.

Chapel messages, week of 3/27/11

Sunday, March 27
Today we wrapped up our study of the Epistle of James by looking at James 5:13-20.  I concentrated especially on the importance of prayer, confession, and having a heart for keeping others on the right path.

CPT James Benson, Fork Union Military Academy's Chaplain, will be at the Tysons Corner Center kiosk this weekend. CPT Benson is in his fifth year as FUMA's Chaplain, and previously taught Spanish in our Middle School. In addition, CPT Benson serves as the coach of the two-time defending state championship rifle team, as well as having coached on the track team and the local club swim team.

If you are interested in enrolling for the summer or fall or would just like some general information, please stop by, say hello, and pick up a free admissions packet.

Chapel messages, week of 2/13/11

Sunday, February 13
We delved back into the Epistle of James for our Sunday study this week, looking at James 5:1-6.  We considered who exactly James could be speaking to in this passage, and I challenged the cadets to ask themsleves if God was speaking to them through his servant James.  We have all been blessed, and will be judged by how we have used the blessings in our lives.  I encouraged the cadets to think about how God has blessed them, and how they could use those resources or talents to help further His plan in the world.
